3 Shepherd Puppies Abandoned in Freezing Cold, Huddle Together to Survive

Published: Jan 21, 2025 · Modified: Feb 21, 2025 by Chloe Bennet · This post may contain affiliate links

In a heartwarming tale of kindness and quick thinking, three puppies were rescued from the freezing cold in Sealy, Texas, thanks to a Good Samaritan and a local animal rescue group. The story, which unfolded on a recent frigid night, highlights the power of community and compassion.

The puppies, just seven weeks old, were abandoned outside an apartment complex as temperatures dropped below freezing. With no shelter or warmth, they huddled together, shivering in the cold. Thankfully, a kind-hearted passerby noticed the pups and took action. Unable to take them in himself, he moved the puppies to a vacant storage unit in the complex and wrapped them in warm blankets to help them survive the night.

The Good Samaritan didn’t stop there. He posted about the puppies on a local Facebook group, hoping someone could help. His post caught the attention of a woman who immediately reached out to Sauver Des Chiens German Shepherd Rescue (SDC), a local rescue organization. Without hesitation, she drove to the apartment complex, scooped up the puppies, and brought them home to safety.

The puppies, now named Artemis, Hephaestus, and Squirt (the “goofy runt”), quickly won over their rescuer’s family. “Her children quickly fell in love with the puppies and made it their mission to take care of them,” said Kylie Jackson, a member of SDC’s board of directors and social media manager. Despite being abandoned in the cold, the puppies were in relatively good health, with fleas being their only major concern. After a much-needed flea bath, they started feeling much better.

The family cared for the puppies until they could be transferred to a more long-term foster home. Now, the pups are thriving under the care of their foster mom, Taite. “They are settling into their foster home, staying warm, and getting tons of rest and play time,” SDC shared on Facebook. The puppies have even found a favorite toy—a stuffed octopus—and are described as fun-loving and full of energy.

This story is a reminder of the importance of community and the difference one person can make. Thanks to the quick actions of the Good Samaritan and the dedication of SDC, these puppies are now safe, warm, and on their way to finding forever homes. Once they are fully vaccinated and old enough, they’ll be available for adoption through SDC’s adoption page.

If you’re interested in supporting these puppies or other animals in need, consider making a donation to Sauver Des Chiens German Shepherd Rescue. Every little bit helps ensure that more animals like Artemis, Hephaestus, and Squirt get the second chance they deserve.

This heartwarming rescue story is proof that even in the coldest of times, kindness can bring warmth and hope. Let’s spread the word and help these puppies find their forever homes!
